Increasing your Vocabulary
The best way to increase your vocabulary is to read widely and to rernember a good deal of what you have
read. This may seem like an old-fashioned method, but there are really no shortcuts. There are, however,
ways of improving your effieiency in learning the new words that you encounter. Knowing how to find clues
to the meaning of a word elsewhere in the sentence and knowing something about the ways words are formed
will help.
This chapter is intended to help you develop skills that will be useful in building a better vocabulary.
But before you begin, take the following test on the meanings of following words:
